Beneath the Surface of Raw Engineered Timber
As a home-owner, we know you want a flooring option that is not only beautiful, but also durable and long-lasting. This is where a raw engineered timber floor can be an excellent choice.
Unlike solid timber floors, raw engineered timber floors are made from multiple layers of wood that are compressed together in different directions, creating stable and durable planks of various lengths & sizes of floorboards or various parquetry designs, which are then glued individually with a flexible adhesive to your sub floor. This results in a flat surface which is warranted to stay flat over time, a much longer lasting option than a solid timber floor.
The top face layer, between 3-6mm, is your species of choice, offering the natural beauty of timber, with added strength and stability due to the engineered construction & combination with the core material made either of hardwood blockwood construction with a backing layer (often birch, poplar or pine) or a multi-ply core depending on the brand & manufacturing area.
One of the biggest advantages of a raw engineered timber floor is that once installed, it is then sanded and finished on-site, giving you the opportunity to customise the floor to suit your design preferences. Most timber species can also be stained to your preferred colour if you want to change it up too!

Now to ‘finish’. The specialised non-toxic Loba water-based coating or hard wax oil applied to the surface can then withstand being ‘lived on’, making it ideal for busy families or homes with pets. Long term maintenance involves a maintenance coat every 5-10 years & this process can be carried out multiple times until a sand back to raw timber is again required to remove deeper scratches & dents which will happen over time.
As an extra benefit for the eco-conscious, the engineered flooring brands we offer mean that natural timber is used to its advantage with the most up to date technology utilised at each stage of manufacturing of wood acquired from sustainable sources both in Australia & globally with a chain of custody & PEFC accreditation. Our Loba water-based coatings are second to none in terms of their positive impact on both the environment & your health. Check out our care and maintenance page from for more info!
